(Yahoo!) - Newly engaged couple Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union's family may have gotten a bit bigger already ... and not in the way that you'd expect.
The Miami Heat guard, 31, reportedly fathered a baby boy with another woman while he and Union were on a break, according to Entertainment Tonight. Sources tell the show that the baby boy's mother is a longtime friend of the NBA baller and he recently visited his son. Union's rep has not responded to omg!'s request for comment.
The “Being Mary Jane” star, 41, was reportedly aware of the child at the time of their engagement last week and they have already worked out the matter privately. Wade popped the question on Dec. 21 with an 8.5 carat, 4-prong, cushion cut diamond from Jason of Beverly Hills.
While the fact that he has a kiddo on the way is definitely news, Wade has been open about his pre-engagement split from Union, which was largely due to their conflicting schedules. In September, he told Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show,” “Celebrity relationships [are] very hard. This was a big year for us and our relationship from the standpoint of she was shooting her show ‘Being Mary Jane,’ going most of the year. I was dealing with my injuries, trying to win a championship, so we kinda took a step back.”
He continued, “We supported each other ... but at the end of the day we came back together and [said], ‘Listen, we want to continue this, we want to continue to try to get better each day,’ and she’s been with me, and I’ve been with her all summer long. We’re going strong now."
In 2012, Union revealed to omg! that busy schedules definitely played a part in the relationship. “I think it makes things easier in the sense that we both understand the schedule and the sacrifice and the demand," she shared. "He understands my appeal and I understand his. With him, we don’t have those issues."
However, the couple, who have been dating since 2009, have certainly endured their fair share of bumps in the road. In 2010, Wade's ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, filed a lawsuit against Union, alleging that the actress had "engaged in sexual foreplay" with Wade in front of his and Funches' sons, Zaire 11, and Zion, 6, which caused the kids emotional distress.
While the case was dismissed, Union's image took a hit. As she told omg! at the time, “Taking the high road sucks,” but it was definitely worth it in the end to protect her sweetie's sons.
If these new reports prove to be true, we bet she'll be employing that advice once again.
