Kid Cudi Gave An Emotional Dedication at Coachella 2019

GOOD Music veteran, Kid Cudi, closed out Coachella Saturday night performing a myriad of hits we all know and love. Week 1 of the festival has already been filled with heartwarming special moments as we listened to artist remind us to appreciate the special moments of life and the dedications to those we’ve lost.

It was Cudi’s 2010 hit, Pursuit of Happiness that truly gave the perfect ending to the night. The Day ‘N’ Nite singer took a moment to dedicate his closing song to Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle who both sadly passed recently. The hip-hop community and beyond has drastically felt the loss of two loved artist.

One user tweeted, “this was the best night for the fandom we all came together and were freaking out over kid cudi and tame like we were there and the twins were so happy seeing their favs and us being happy for them, this is an unforgettable night for all of us”

The transparent party song, Pursuit of Happiness, is still one of Cudi’s most notable tunes due to its introspective nature. In the song, Cudi discussing chasing happiness with temporary substances but never finding a permanent fix. Many have reveled at the honesty that the Cleveland rapper bares, including comedian, Pete Davidson who has thanked Cudi for saving his life.

“He saved my life. I would have killed myself if I didn’t have Kid Cudi.” Said Pete during an interview with iHeart Radio’s The Breakfast Club.

“I’ve been in and out of things like that, and I think that’s why a lot of kids my age can relate to Cudi and people love him so much,” Davidson continue. “He’s a very emotional dude and he saves all of us. That’s very real and honest and it’s comforting to know that your hero goes through the same stuff you do.”

Like many artist, for years, Cudi would hide his pain within his art. In 2016, however he opened up and admitted to the world that he battled with depression and suicidal thoughts then checked into a rehab facility for help.

"I am not at peace," he penned in the open letter. "I haven't been since you've known me. If I didn't come here, I would've done something to myself. I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions every day of my life. There's a raging violent storm inside of my heart at all times. Idk what peace feels like. Idk how to relax. My anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it. I can't make new friends because of it. I don't trust anyone because of it and I'm tired of being held back in my life. I deserve to have peace."

Cudi's transparency has helped many listeners, fans, and peers to understand that it is okay to seek help. During an interview on Jada Pinkett's Red Table Talk series, Cudi said that his troubles were just that - his own.

"I was really good at keeping my troubles hidden... even from my friends," Cudi said "I really was good with that. And it's scary because you hear people say, 'I had no clue.' I really went out of my way to keep what I was going through hidden because I was ashamed."
