OPEN IN AMERICA: College Campus in the Fall

High school students are graduating and thinking about what college will be like come this fall.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • College kids benefit by being immersed in the campus atmosphere.
  • Dorm bathrooms were germ-infested well before the virus.
  • The virus is harmful and can infect every human, but the vast majority of the mortalities occurred in people over the age of 45.
  • No college football this fall would be a nail in many school’s coffin.

High school students are graduating and thinking about what college will be like come this fall. The universities have similar thoughts. They must weigh the risks of filling a campus with thousands of students versus a drastic loss of revenue by keeping their doors shut.

Many schools plan to re-open campuses to students, which does not sit well with every parent. As one public health doctor compared placing teenagers in a dormitories, (quote) “It would be like sending them on a cruise ship.”

Colleges are afraid of lawsuits if they become a hot-spot. But also fear financial ruin if the campus turns into a ghost town.

Other schools have plans of only online courses without a reduction in tuition. Parents are rejecting that idea, too.

A college consultant said, (quote) “I think a significant percentage of students, who think they want to go now, may not return to campus in person due to safety concerns.” (The Wall Street Journal)
