VIDEO OF THE DAY:

A video has gone viral showing a white woman calling 911 on a black man who asked her to leash her dog in New York City's Central Park.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • There are signs all over that area of the park telling dog owners to leash their dogs because it's a popular bird watching spot.
  • The man sounds calm and not threatening at all. She overreacted.
  • It's also very disturbing to see how rough she is with the dog. Maybe it's better that she gave it back to the rescue shelter.
  • As soon as the woman put the leash on her dog, the man stopped recording.
  • Why is everyone so quick to take out their phone and start recording other people?

A video has gone viral showing a white woman calling 911 on a black man who asked her to leash her dog in New York City's Central Park.

Christian Cooper claims he was bird watching in the park when he saw a dog running off its leash. Cooper approached the dog's owner and told her the park requires dogs to be on a leash. When the woman refused, Cooper began recording the encounter. The woman, whose name is Amy Cooper, became angry and called 911 telling them, "there’s an African American man threatening my life."

As a result of the video going viral, Amy Cooper's employer placed her on administrative leave. She also surrendered the dog to the rescue shelter she adopted it from. She later publicly apologized saying, "It was unacceptable and I humbly and fully apologize to everyone who’s seen that video, everyone that’s been offended … everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and I understand why they do."
