A doctor in South Africa has said so far Omicron cases they've treated have been mild.
COVID still remains a threat, though some are clearly over it.
If governments around the world are closing their borders to travelers from South Africa and nearby countries due to the Omicron variant, you can bet it's a serious threat.
Top officials in the U.S. are calling for those eligible to get their boosters and those still unvaccinated to get their shots as a new variant known as Omicron was discovered in South Africa last week.
Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, said Sunday, "I know, America, you’re really tired about hearing those things, but the virus is not tired of us. And it’s shape-shifting itself.”
So far, not much is known about the Omicron variant. It's unclear just how contagious or serious it is and whether the current vaccines will help protect people from it. (The New York Times)
