Ian is a strong category 4 hurricane, but is strengthening and could be a category 5 when it makes landfall.

After crossing Florida, Ian is expected to move north into the southwest and continue to dump a lot of rain.

It's scary that, with any large storm, there are always people who choose to ride it out.

Good luck to everyone in Florida. This could be historic.

The latest information from the National Hurricane Center shows that Hurricane Ian has strengthened into a category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of more than 140 mph.

The powerful wind and heavy rain is expected to cause catastrophic conditions for the area of Fort Myers which is expected to take a direct hit as the storm crosses over Florida later today. The Florida Keys already began feeling the impact of the storm last night and several tornados were reported in South Florida ahead of the storm's arrival. A deadly storm surge is expected to cause historic flooding and the window for residents to evacuate is closing very fast. Florida Power & Light say residents should expect widespread power outages for an extended period of time.

The eye of the storm is forecast to move over central Florida tonight and early tomorrow and could dump as much as two feet of rain in some areas. Florida's airports have either closed or are preparing to close, and theme parks like Walt Disney World and Universal in Orlando will remain closed today and tomorrow. (The Weather Channel)
